A new restaurant in Lower Plenty opened a day before I moved to Melbourne from Calgary so on my first day in Australia, my aunt took me to check out Stix & Stones of Lower Plenty. Originally, we were just going to have a chai tea latte and hot chocolate but we ended up staying for pizza, too.

Ambience
I really love the look of the place. It has a bit of a rustic feel to it. The place is very spacious and features a variety of social spaces for all ages including the main house, a gazebo, a fire pit, a yard, and a play area for children. My aunt and I ordered our drinks from The Container Bar, thinking we were just going to take our drinks and walk around but like I said, we ended up staying for pizza so we found a spot at The Main House.
The Main House
It is the central point of Stix & Stones of Lower Plenty and is located on top of the hill. It gives guests an overlooking view of the grounds. The outdoor terrace of The Main House is a perfect spot to enjoy good food during the summer.
The Yard
I believe this spot will be greatly enjoyed by families especially the children as it has interactive games and spaces for everyone to enjoy.
The Container
This is a walk-up bar and food station that offers comfort food like burgers, chicken wings, fries, and good beer to wash it all down.
The Fire Pit
This space would probably be popular in the winter. Re-purposed industrial bobbin tables surround the fire pit which makes it a warm area to enjoy delicious food especially on breezy summer nights.
The Gazebo
Beautiful flowers surround this charming gazebo and is found just behind The Main House.
Food
I ordered a hot chocolate and it cost AUD$3.50 and my aunt ordered a chai latte for the same price. The hot chocolate wasn’t too creamy nor too chocolatey and is the perfect sweetness. The server also added a few extra chocolate powder on top to sweeten the deal. I also tried my aunt’s chai latte and the chai taste isn’t overpowering which I like because I’m not really a fan of chai and find the taste a bit strong but not this one.
As for the pizza, we ordered Gamberi which is white-based and has prawns, arugula, chili, and garlic oil for toppings. This was highly-recommended by our server so we went with it. The pizza was thin crust just like any authentic Italian pizza. However, my aunt and I found that this pizza had way too much arugula. This pizza cost AUD$19. All pizzas at Stix & Stones of Lower Plenty are cooked in their wood-fired Marana oven.
Aside from Italian food like pizza and pasta, Stix & Stones of Lower Plenty also offers other favourites like cheeseburgers, fish and chips, and steaks. I’d love to try their steak next time!

The staff at Stix & Stones of Lower Plenty were attentive and friendly. They know their food and beverages by heart and give impeccable service.

Shame about the pizza, I guess, but otherwise it seems like a culinary experience that can’t be beat, with great decor, atmosphere and service. Certainly the sort of place I would want to dine in when in Australia 🙂

A restaurant with a fire pit is where I would love to be eating, the pizza sounds delicious without that extra arugula. Now that hot chocolate would be great on a cold day!
