Extreme Bean Eatery, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

When I started this blog, I explained why I chose the tagline “One City at a Time”. This is an example of why traveling does not always mean to go see places on the other side of the world. There is always something new and exciting in your own backyard.

Extreme Bean is located near the Bow River.

Today, Gabe decided to take me out since it had been quite warm in Calgary for the past days. I asked him where we were going and he said he needed a computer to print something because theirs do not work. I told him, he could use ours at home but he said he will just use a computer somewhere else. Surprise! He actually brought me to Extreme Bean Cafe and Grill. He then told me, “I hope you are hungry.”

He rarely treats me out for lunch or dinner and he rarely surprises me.

I got excited and instantly thought about writing a blog post about this place because I had never been in this place before.

Before entering, there was a sign that says what they offer: full breakfast, asian cuisine, pasta, etc. I thought to myself that it sounds promising to me because those are my three favourite kinds of food.

We went in and there were a lot of ads for yoga and that gave me another reason I liked this place. I had a feeling that the kind of people that go eat at this place are people who are totally like me!

The place feels home-y.

The place felt home-y. It reminded me of my grandma’s place more than anything. There was a sense of warmth and joy, like the same feeling you get when you just got home from work or a vacation and say “aaahh, home sweet home.”

We even got into a nice booth because the place was packed and this is the only seat available. Although, this is actually reserved from 11:30 to 1:30 everyday for a party of four.

I think the place is perfect for families to have a brunch on Sundays or even for couples who are tired of going to the same old restaurants in Calgary.

The menu.

I ordered the Seafood Pasta and Gabe ordered the Extreme 1/2 Pound Burger. We found that it was a bit pricey. Gabe paid for it and when he got back to our table he said he can not believe it cost him around $35 for both orders including tips. We even only ordered tap water to save a bit of money.

When the food was ready, we were happy with the size of the serving and the quality of food. We were then satisfied and agreed that we got what we paid for.

Seafood pasta!

As for me, I did not even finish the pasta and ended up taking home half of it and would probably be enough for me for tomorrow’s lunch at work.

Will I eat there again? I will when I am close by or if it was on the way of a destination and I got hungry but I would not go out of my way to go there. And to be honest, the price of their drinks such as hot chocolate, mocha, cafe latte, and espresso are almost if not the same price as Starbucks. Their plain bagel was more than $2 and the bagels from Starbucks are only about $1.50.

I really wanted to try the chocolate chip muffin but Gabe forgot to order it. He probably got scared of the price! Hehe

Expenses: $0 out of my pocket but from Gabe’s pocket it was $16.95 for the Seafood Pasta and $13.95 for his Extreme 1/2 Pound Burger.
