My favourite thing to do in every city I visit is to just walk around with no plans or itinerary on hand and to stop at any food place that catches my eye. That’s exactly what I did one day when I was in Melbourne.
So when I was walking along Swanston Street (or was it at St. Collins Lane? I can’t remember now but they have two locations in Melbourne!), this ice cream place called Milkcow caught my eye. I looked at their menu and decided to get their Avalanche. It’s made with soft serve ice cream, topped with fairy floss (or cotton candy to my North American friends), and a shot of espresso on the side to pour over this really, really good stuff. As their tagline says, they are “full of that good stuff!”
Well, they surely did not disappoint as they have the softest and creamiest soft serve ice cream I have ever had. Totally worth the AUS$8!
If there is anything I learned from my experience in my quest to finding the best ice cream place is that the best ones always use organic and local ingredients. This is exactly what Milkcow offers.
This ice cream chain originated from South Korea.
Update: When some friends from the Philippines came to visit Melbourne, I took them here and we got a variety to try a few.

We’ve found a variety of tasty ice cream stores around the world, but I haven’t heard of Milkcow before. I love cotton candy with coffee. What a great treat you found.
Haha one of the best things I loved about Melbourne was doing just that, wondering around with plan and ending up in a lane way cafe of getting lost as i followed the Graffiti from one lane to another. I’ve been on Swanston Street but I don’t remember this Ice cream place. I would have definitely stopped there haha. The avalanche looks like you made a great choice 😀

Swanson street is one of my favourite places to explore in Melbourne — and this place looks incredible. Will definitely be adding it to my list fi I ever make it back here.
It’s the best thing to do – to walk around the city with no itinerary! That’s when you stumble upon the hidden gems, places that’ll leave you with good memories and your own little finds that you can tell people about. I do like organic and locally made ice creams. The one from Milkcow looks totally yummy, like it would melt in my mouth.

I was in Melbourne last week but must have missed Milkcow – looks divine though, and $8 is incredible value! I’m a short hop skip and a jump over the water in Tasmania, so would be amazing if they came to Devonport!
I am a dairy-phobic person, I hope there are dairy-free versions also available. What I liked about this post is to walk freely around with no itinerary. I sometimes do that and end up exploring new and exciting places.

I’m almost sure I had this in Kuala Lumpur, I wonder if it’s the same chain? It looks so delicious, soft-serve ice cream and espresso, are perfect together.
Wow! When I saw the photo of the cotton candy I was immediately intrigued. I love stumbling into places and discovering cool establishments like this. And, yes, I agree that the best ice cream places are organic 🙂

I love that you guys call cotton candy fairy floss. I only recently heard that term at a foodie event and wasn’t sure what she meant until I saw it. The avalanche sounds delish though with it on top!!
Nothing can beat the fun of exploring a new place and checking out new eating joints. The Milkcow looks like my kinda place. The use of organic and local ingredients must make the experience even more enjoyable.

At first I thought this promoting a Korean dessert and then after I read through the post, it all made sense 😉 Fairy floss eh? Yea, I would call all that sugary goodness cotton candy! But fairy floss is much cooler! Keep on wandering without a destination!

Swanson street sounds like a great place to explore in Melbourne (advised by friends as well). MilkCow seems to be great place for ice cream lovers. Although I’m not a great big fan of the dessert; an occasional scoop does feel wonderful.
