Traveling Solo in NYC: A List of 5 Things I am Scared Of

1. I am scared of getting lost and not finding my way back home.

New York is big. I have not been there but I imagine it would be. I bet their subway is pretty complicated and how am I supposed to know where to get off/on in just a week? I am terrible at maps (I think) and kind of shy to approach people to ask questions.

2. Getting robbed/harrassed.

As much as I do not want others to know that I am just a tourist and not a New Yorker, I think they’ll know. Aren’t tourists have a better chance getting robbed? I mean, I am pretty sure that New York City is a pretty safe place to be at but I have heard stories of some places in NYC that I should watch out for. Plus not having anyone beside me would mean no one would be there to save me!

3. Not having the time/money to see everything!

I am the type of person who jam packs everything in the schedule because I do not know whether or not I would have the chance to visit this place again! Therefore, I need to see everything in one shot. Who cares about sleep?

4. In times of need, no one might offer help.

See #2. Also, if I get sick, no one would be there to take care of me. Although, I would be staying at a friend’s house, I would not want to bother her a lot.

5. Being the forgetful person that I am, there will be no one there to remind me to bring the essentials such as my passport and Canadian PR card that I need to get back in to Canada. Otherwise, I am banished from the land of maple syrup and hockey until I find where I put my card.
