Every Thursday night starting at 5:30 p.m., Melbournians are going to be delighted with food and entertainment at South Melbourne Night Market. This night market runs from January 4 to February 22.
There are seriously many food options to choose from including calamari, pizza, dim sims, pasta, bao sliders, oysters (I noticed Aussies love their oysters) and poke. For sweet-toothed foodies like me, be glad to know that there are endless dessert choices including traditional tiramisu, artisan gelato, and doughnuts.
I ended up filling my tummy with a delicious huge serving of barbeque pork chop with salad and chips for AUS$12. And although I wanted to end my dinner with a handcrafted gelato, I decided to get a tiramisu instead because I reckoned my sore throat at that time would thank me for not eating a cold, sweet treat. The tiramisu from Tiramisu’ Lift Me Up set me back AUS$6.50.
Aside from food, there are also extraordinary pieces fashionistas are surely going to find from stalls and shops of Aussie fashion designers. There are jewelleries, clothing, accessories, and footwear that you may add to your wardrobe collection.
This night market has been a popular event among the locals and tourists alike for the past 10 years.
“We have opened up Cecil Street for seating and more food, but that was in response to crowds rather than to celebrate 10 years,” a South Melbourne Night Market representative said in a Facebook interview. “We had so many people on the night it opened that we had to change things a bit.”
This is definitely an Instagram-worthy event. Unfortunately for me, my phone is still broken so I relied on a photo I saw on Instagram and a photo my aunt took.
If you’re driving to the market, you’ll be glad to know that there is free rooftop parking!
Location: 322-326 Coventry Street, South Melbourne, Victoria
I loved the Melbourne night market when I was there, you’re right just so much different types of food, I remember having such a hard time knowing what to eat – But that’s impresive that you got that huge chop for just $12, just the picture of that made my mouth water – How are you enjoying your time in Aus?

It is wonderful. I’m already dreading the day I have to leave Aus and I don’t even have a ticket yet! I’m really praying things work out and I won’t have to leave this wonderful country!
I’m a huge foodie and would love to visit this night market. There’s a great selection of food here – I’d be drawn to the bao sliders! The pork chop looks good though – looks so juicy and succulent! Adding this to my list when I eventually plan another road trip in Australia.
I love food markets like this, especially in the warmer months. Looks like they have lots of delicious options.
I haven’t yet made it all the way to Oz, but when I do, I’m going here! I’m a big foodie, and greedy too ha! That pork chop looks juicy!
