Aloha! I’ve been to Hawaii three times. The first time was with my family, the second was a solo trip, and the third was with my boyfriend-turned-fiancé, when he proposed to me at our Honolulu hotel pool.

Every trip to Hawaii is a treat, and why wouldn’t it be? Coming from Canada, any excuse to be under the sun and swim in the ocean is a great day! Now that I work for an airline, it’s way easier and cheaper for me to escape the harsh Canadian cold in exchange for warm, sunny island time.

Get on the Waikiki Trolley

One of the best ways to see Honolulu is to jump on board the Waikiki Trolley. Local experts will welcome you on board and share their tips and love for Hawaiian culture. Additionally, their routes include historical sites, shopping, and breathtaking landscapes.

Duke Statue – a symbol of Hawaii’s surfing heritage

Learn how to surf

A trip to Hawaii wouldn’t be complete without a surf session. If you have never surfed before, you can definitely book a lesson by the beach! My parents paid for my brother’s and my surf lessons when we went there for the first time. I remember it being a lot of fun, and it was actually pretty easy! You must be 14 years old or older to sign up for surfing lessons. Rash guards, reef shoes, and surfboard rentals are already included in the price, so just bring yourself, your swimsuit, and sunscreen.

Visit the Pearl Harbor

One of my dad’s dreams is to see Pearl Harbour, so of course it was one of our must-sees when we visited as a family. You will first stop by the Pearl Harbour Visitor Centre, and then ride a boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. As it is a memorial for fallen soldiers, shirt and shoes are required when visiting. Don’t forget to bring your passport as well.

Enjoy a sunset cruise in Waikiki

End your day relaxing on a cruise while marvelling at the beauty of a Hawaiian sunset. The cruise lasts about 1.5 hours, and it includes one welcome drink.
